The Musée de la Musique has an amazing collection of musical instruments from around the world, but mostly focused musical instruments from Western European history, dating back to the 15th century. It was much richer and more interesting than we expected. The ingenuity and craftsmanship displayed in that great variety of instruments was really awesome, especially considering that most of them were made completely by hand without the aid of modern manufacturing techniques.
We attended a lecture demo on a renaissance instrument called a serpent, an early trumpet made of wood.
In addition to the many early instruments, they also had some early examples of 20th century electric instruments, like electric guitars and electronic music systems.
